An easy, homemade advent idea
This week I put together a homemade advent calendar for my 2- and 4-year-old. My main aim was to make it something meaningful and memorable to convey what Christmas is all about. My second aim was to avoid too many sweets!
I got small, plain boxes and stuck advent countdown stickers on the lid.
Contents:
- A Bible verse on laminated paper. I downloaded a lovely printout of Christmas verses for kids from happy home fairy I think I will peg each one on a twine string on the wall so we can build on the story every day.
- A Christmas sticker for each child. I bought a cute kit from littlecraftybugs on eBay that includes 12 nativity scenes and a sticker for each day (see picture below).
So, if each child gets one set, we’re basically sorted for the next 6 years! I cut out each sticker in order and put it in the respective box. Life can get messy when a 2-year-old meets a sheet of stickers. - A tiny Christmas ornament to hang on the tree.
I’ve also stacked the boxes on a shelf at a safe distance from curious little hands!
Confident this arrangement will minimise sibling drama, I’m hoping this December will mark the start to a simple and fun family advent tradition!
