Decluttering my craft supplies
I’ve been transferring my craft supplies from my study to the (amazing) new bookshelves my husband has just built in our living room. I’ve decluttered in the process and am streamlined my million supplies into neater, more accessible storage. One of my many overstuffed drawers, pre-organisation:
I think this can be classified as progress:
Drawers, boxes, labels and transparent folders have been key in making everything more organised and functional. Dividing things according to purpose rather than type of item has made the whole collection more user-friendly!
I knew I had collected way more supplies than I could possibly use, but hadn’t realised the magnitude of the junk I’d held on to over the years until I went through it all! It was really liberating to get rid of things that I knew I would never have the time to fix or find the right project to use them in.
As in everything in the home, I’m slowly learning that keeping only the items you truly need saves time, simplifies daily decision-making and makes storage spaces much more pleasant. Even more, passing things on to people who will actually use them is a much better use of your belongings than having them sitting on a shelf for years! Here is an excellent Podcast that served as a guide on how to stick to the basics: Decluttering Your Home; Decluttering Your Life…for more Joy!
Since re-organising my supplies, I’ve also started planning craft projects more creatively, in the reverse from what I’d usually do: I now look through the cardmaking supplies I have and come up with a design based on what is available rather than finding a cute picture on Pinterest and rummaging through my overflowing containers to see if I have what it takes to make it.
